MP Zimmer Concerned with Northern Gateway Dismissal

OTTAWA – Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies and Official Critic for the Asia Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative commented on the Liberal Government’s pipeline decisions.

“I am pleased with the approval of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project as well as the Line 3 Replacement Project but disappointed that the Northern Gateway Pipelines Project was rejected in spite of 209 conditions and previous approval,” said Mr. Zimmer. “Unfortunately this decision seems to be based more on politics than on the actual science-based evidence that the National Energy Board was tasked to provide.”

The Northern Gateway Pipeline would have transported oil from Alberta to the Northern BC coast adding 4,000 construction jobs and at least 1,000 long term jobs in British Columbia. This project had already passed an environmental assessment and regulatory review that began in 2010 but was struck down by the Federal Court of Appeal in 2014.
