Ottawa, ON – Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies, issued the following statement regarding the fire that recently destroyed the BKB Cedar Manufacturing mill in McBride.
“I want to express my concern for the community of McBride and offer support in any way we can. It was very sad to hear that this mill, with long term employment and ongoing contracts in place, was destroyed by fire. I was however, very thankful to hear that no one was injured in the blaze.
“This is a massive hit that McBride has taken, the job loss equates to over 5% of the population and there are many families that will need assistance. I was able to speak with both Raj Basran and Mayor Martin last night to offer the support of my office in assisting with claims.
“When something like this happens it’s encouraging to see people like Chris and Kelli Parker step up and provide food and support as well as Peter Doukakis with the Robson Valley Support Society providing community assistance.”
