FORT ST. JOHN – Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies, issued the following statement regarding International Day of the Girl Child:
“As a father of a teenaged daughter, I am honoured to celebrate International Day of the Girl Child on October 11.
“I have always believed that girls in our region should have the same opportunities as boys, which is why I have been supportive of initiatives like establishing a competitive girls hockey team and league in Northern BC.
“My daughter Bobbie now plays on one of these competitive teams and I have watched her grow into a strong leader who cares about God, her family, her friends, and her country.
“I am proud to be her Dad and I look forward to celebrating her on October 11.”
October 11 is International Day of the Girl Child, a day dedicated to celebrating the voices and power of girls, championing their rights worldwide, and reflecting on the challenges they continue to face because of their gender.
