Liberal Members of Natural Resources Committee Vote Against Keystone XL Study

OTTAWA – Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies, issued the following statement regarding the Liberal Members of the Standing Committee on Natural Resources voting against a Conservative motion to study the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline at today’s committee meeting:

“It is shameful that the Liberal members of the Natural Resources Committee have no interest in supporting Keystone XL, by studying the cancellation of the pipeline and the impact it will have on Canada and our energy sector.

“By voting against this motion, the Liberals have once again failed to stand up for our oil and gas workers. Securing jobs in the resource sector is an essential part of getting Canadians back to work and Canada’s economic recovery.

“Conservatives will continue to be a champion for Canadian workers and our world-class energy sector. The world needs more Canada!”

The NDP and Bloc Québécois members of the committee also voted against the motion. It was defeated 7 to 4 with only the Conservative members, including Mr. Zimmer, voting in favour of the study.
