OTTAWA – Bob Zimmer, Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies made the following statement regarding the announcement by the Liberal Government on its plans to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees in Canada:
“I know the vast majority of Canadians share in the desire to help those fleeing the violence in Syria. We have a proud history of helping those in need, but we must also do so responsibly.
“That is why I am pleased Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has listened to Canadians and extended the deadline for resettling 25,000 Syrian refugees. Any resettlement plan must ensure the safety of Canadians, as well as enable the full integration of refugees as welcomed members of Canadian society.
“At the same time, I also believe that Canada has an important role to play in the degradation of ISIS and we must continue to stand with our allies.
“We continue to call on the Liberal government to reverse its position and ensure the Royal Canadian Air Force remains engaged in the fight against ISIS.”
